Prevent Falls Before They Happen
As the days get shorter, now is a great time to take a fresh look at the areas around your home that could become fall hazards—especially for older adults.
Start with the places you walk every day. Make sure entryways, stairs, hallways, and outdoor walkways are well-lit and free of clutter. Secure loose rugs, check that handrails are sturdy, and keep leaves and other debris cleared from steps and sidewalks.
Inside the home, bathrooms deserve a little extra attention. Non-slip surfaces, properly placed grab bars, and adequate lighting can make everyday routines safer without making a home feel clinical.
Patrick's PT Tip: Don't overlook transitions between surfaces. Uneven thresholds, changes in flooring, curled rug edges, and even a small step into a room can become unexpected trip hazards.

Sometimes, a few small updates today can make a home safer, more comfortable, and easier to navigate for years to come.
